What We Set Out to Solve

The original outdoor deck was functional but exposed, offering little protection from the elements and becoming unusable for much of the year. The space had several issues holding it back:

Pest problems during warm months made the deck uncomfortable to use.
No enclosure meant the family was at the mercy of the weather.
Insufficient lighting shortened the usable hours, especially in the evening.
Unclear visual organization — the layout didn't match how the family actually wanted to use the space.

The Transformation

A Fully Screened-In, Four-Season Porch

The completed space is a screened-in porch with skylights, a beadboard ceiling, recessed lighting, and clean, low-maintenance PVC trim throughout. Key highlights:

Preserved the existing deck structure while reinforcing it with new footers and additional framing.
Full screen enclosure keeps pests out without sacrificing the open-air feel.
Skylights and recessed lighting bring in natural light during the day and warm, even light at night.
Beadboard ceiling adds a finished, indoor-quality look overhead.
Extended deck for a dedicated grilling zone, separated from the lounge area.
Hidden rain escape system keeps the space beneath the deck dry and functional in any weather.
PVC trim throughout for a low-maintenance finish that won't rot or warp.
