This outdoor deck was functional but exposed, offering little protection from the elements and becoming unusable for much of the year. One of the biggest issues for the homeowners was how often bugs made the space uncomfortable, especially in the warmer months. The existing structure lacked enclosure, lighting, and visual definition, and the layout didn’t fully support how the family wanted to use the space.
This tour captures the deck exactly as it was before construction began—no demolition yet, just the original condition that we used as the foundation for a complete transformation.
The After
The rebuilt space is now a versatile outdoor retreat, featuring a fully screened-in porch with skylights, beadboard ceiling, recessed lighting, and clean, low-maintenance PVC trim throughout. We preserved the original deck structure, added new footers and framing where needed, and extended the deck to create a dedicated grilling area.
Beneath that deck extension, we installed a hidden rain escape system to keep the space below dry and functional for future use. Together, these upgrades created a layered, purposeful design—ideal for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the outdoors in comfort year-round.
